WATER QUALITY WITHIN SOMERSET EAST

Due to the water interruptions experienced as a result of load shedding in the area of Somerset East, the drinking water quality is compromised and has caused a deviation from SANS 241.  

Water that is unsafe for human consumption posses serious health risks, and those at greatest risk of waterborne disease are infants, young children, the elderly and immune compromised individuals. To ensure that your health is not compromised as well by the poor quality of drinking water experienced at this moment, here are the tips on how to purify your water at home:

1.	Boil water and cool it down before drinking
                                 
                           or

2.	Add one teaspoon of unscented bleach in a 25l container of clean and let it stand for at least three (3) hours before you can drink it. 

Should there be an improvement in the water quality, this notice will be lifted and it will be safe to drink water without taking these precautionary measures.
